Church Music in the USA - Insights into Working and Studying in the New World from a European Perspective
Based in North America since 2007, German-born organist Jens Korndörfer has studied and worked in five universities and three churches in different denominations. In this presentation, he will share his insights into
- The mechanics of American churches: the role of the music ministry in the cultural life of the community, ensembles, finances, etc.;
- The educational system in the New World: curricula and degree plans for organists, facilities, tuition & scholarships, etc.
The differences and commonalities between the education and work of church musicians on either side of the Atlantic provide a fascinating starting point for reflections on how to establish a successful career as an organist and church musician in today's dynamic and rapidly changing job market.
